This week, I want to ask you a simple question: What is your goal in life?
Seriously, that’s it. That’s the whole point of my blog post for you this week. Do you set goals? If so, what are they? And what are you doing to make those goals a reality?
I’ve never known anyone who became successful by accident. Think about that. When you read stories about people who are successful, healthy, and happy, they all have one thing in common: They know how to set and attain goals.
Throughout my life, I’ve set many goals. Some of them I’ve accomplished, and others I’m still working on. Some I even figured out weren’t going to work for me. But no matter what, I’ve always tried to be working towards something because that’s the only way to keep moving forward.
What is a goal? It’s simply something you want to achieve. Maybe it’s reaching a certain level in your career field. Maybe it’s having a family and raising children. Maybe it’s finding financial stability. Maybe it’s leaving a significant impact on your community. We each have different goals because we’re different people with different personalities and passions, but each of us can and should have some kind of goal in our lives.
If you don’t have a goal in life, then you don’t have a purpose. Without a purpose, you become stagnant. Simply getting by isn’t enough to be successful. Paying your bills may be one of your goals, but it can’t be all there is to life. You have to give yourself the opportunity to do more than you’re doing today.
Goals push us to be the best we can be. They give us something to strive for, and if we’re smart, we can turn those goals into little steps we can take every day to get where we want to be. Without a goal, you won’t go anywhere. But if you can find a goal that you’re passionate about—that motivates you—it can take you far.
So let me ask you again: What is your goal in life? What do you want to be? Where are your God-given passions and desires leading you?
Follow-up question: How are you going to get there? Having a goal is the first step, but turning that goal into action steps is the next. We’ll talk about that more later, but for now, I just want to encourage you to always have a goal in mind as you go about your life. You never know what you can accomplish until you set your mind to it.
To your fitness!
